Rafe Martin, founding teacher of Endless Path Zendo, a Diamond Sangha temple in Rochester, NY, has been practicing Zen since 1970. A disciple of Philip Kapleau Roshi, after Kapleau Roshi’s retirement, he practiced for several years with Robert Aitken Roshi. He received Dharma transmission from Danan Henry Roshi, founding teacher of the Zen Center of Denver, a Kapleau lineage teacher and a Diamond Sangha Dharma master.
Rafe is also an award-winning author and storyteller, and a recipient of the Empire State Award. He is in Tucson to speak at the Tucson Book Festival. His most recent book is Before Buddha Was Buddha: Learning from the Jataka Tales, from Wisdom Publications.
Rafe has given talks at Zen and Dharma centers around the country. His writings have appeared in Parabola, Tricycle, Mountain Record, Zen Bow, Blind Donkey, and Buddhadharma. Given his background, he tends to work with myth and story and their deep relation to Zen practice.
Rafe will be joining us at ZDS on Wednesday, March 7, 2018. We will be sitting from 6:30 PM until 7:00 PM, and then Rafe will give a talk and entertain Q&A from participants. The evening will end at 8:00 PM.
